Around the world, once the spring is announced (usually is marked in the northern hemisphere by the Vernal Equinox), people celebrate the end of the dismal winter weather with unique festivals and traditions. One of these celebrations is called Martisor or Martenitsa.
Mărțișor, marț and mărțiguș are all names for the red and white string with hanging tassel customarily given on the 1st day of spring. In the ancinet times, the string could’ve also been black and white or blue and white. Giving this kind of talisman to loved ones become a spring tradition and it is believed that the wearer will be strong and healthy for the year to come.
